aaron's thread over in the "personal experiences" section really got me thinking about how it was to grow up a jw child in the 80's.
i was born in 1979. so, i missed the 1970's.

wow i almost found myself feeling less negativity towards the JW's while reading that article... it paints a pretty picture, but hopefully the people reading that article will realise that the rainclouds are just outside the frame...

just curious about what made you leave the religion?
was it hard?
is it possible to get someone that has jw beliefs to see the other side?
first of all, EVERYTHING about this religion is hard: being in it, leaving it, and everything in between. as long as you've had extended contact with JW's, you will find something about it difficult.
the first thing that made me look into it was when someone told me that the JW's joined the UN. of course i didn't believe it so i looked it up and, sure enough it was true. that made me look into every other thing that i could read about the watchtower. that started a whirlwind of research and information finding...
i started to fade and i kept my association with JW's to a minimum, based on how much i could trust them. now 90% of my JW association is with family

so i've been wondering about it recently.
i was baptized when i was 11 years old and have been a witness for about 8 years now.
since i was 11 (yes, since 11) i've been reading the watchtower, doing the mics and all that stuff.
because the 6 or 7 year-old has proven himself aright in the way of the scriptures. he has shown that he is mature in the sense that he can resist the temptations of the devil. he knows what being a dedicated servant of God means. and most of all, he wants to prove the devil a liar, now and forever.
yea that's how i feel about it. i can quote it, but i can't swallow it

i know a lot of people we say, i am 100% out, and speak of all the things they disagree with.
yet i don't think that is the case, we are what the accumulation of our days have brought us too and no matter how hard you try, i know you all have witness in you.
it might be as simple as a thought when we do something normal, with some stray conscience struggle with doing something we were told was wrong for so many years.
i still think its weird for a guy and a girl who arent related or married to be alone together!!! ha ha, kinda sad eh>
hahaha after meeting and becoming friends with homosexuals, i had to make an adjustment to that way of thinking. unless there is a chaperone, no two individuals may be alone together. and the chaperone must be a male who is a ministerial servant and at least 28.

i agree with you... i think it will always be a part of me... the very fact that we're on this site shows that it still affects us in at least some aspects of life...
i can't picture anyone who is registered as a JWD member actually having a valid argument to prove that they are 100% jw-free
